 Tips For Drivers

  • Multiply Gas Savings with Vehicle Maintenance

Today's cars are pretty simple. Put gas in them, change the oil and you're pretty much set. After all, modern cars have become almost maintenance-free because consumers don't want to spend time keeping their car in working order. But along with this trend of low-maintenance appliancelike cars, owners have more and more begun to overlook the little things that make a car run efficiently. And when you don't do regularly scheduled maintenance — like keep your tires inflated or check your belts on a regular basis — your car is wasting small, but significant amounts of gas with every mile.Fortunately, for those looking to take a chunk out of their fuel costs, this is the easiest place to find a few more miles per gallon. And it takes only a few seconds at the gas station and a little record keeping to optimize your car's performance.

  • Can You Repair That Tire Puncture?

Nail in your tire? It’s important to know if a puncture can be repaired if the tire needs to be replaced.

  • Vehicle Lights and Wipers: The Keys to See and Be Seen

There's the obvious fact: dimming or burned out headlight bulbs mean you can't see the road and other drivers can't see you. It's a recipe for danger. It can mean a costly ticket from your local authorities if you don't get them fixed. Besides, there are plenty of options for improved visibility these days, including LED and Xenon bulbs. Even changing out your old halogen headlights for newer models can provide 30 percent brighter light and up to 25 percent more down-road visibility. So why tolerate yellow, inadequate, or uneven lighting?

  • Car Care Month Checklist: Summer / Winter Care

Many drivers put vehicle maintenance on auto pilot, waiting for a “ding” from the vehicle’s onboard reminder or following decades-old habits. These days, vehicles have changed and so have maintenance schedules. Keep your vehicle in peak condition all year by following Autohaus Bavaria's seasonal advice and car checkups.

  • Maintenance for Long Distance trips

Those who neglect doing a quick mechanical check-over – even of newer cars – before taking to the highway are begging to be stranded. We’re not talking about rebuilding the cylinder head or performing a line-bore on the crankshaft mains. Below are just a few reminders that may slip your mental checklist in the rush to get bags packed and kids fed.

Tire Safety Week

Maintaining your vehicle’s tires is not only essential to getting better gas mileage, but it is also crucial to ensuring safety on the road. To maximize tire life, the Car Care Council recommends checking tire condition and pressure regularly, and there is no better time to start than National Tire Safety Week.

“It takes only five minutes to check tire inflation, including the spare. Since tires effect a vehicle’s ride, handling and traction, checking tire pressure

Be Car Care Aware

Keeping up with the maintenance for your car is one of the most basic ways to extend its life. But it's not always easy to know how often to schedule periodic upkeep such as tune-ups, oil changes and tire rotations.

 Seasonal Ready Car

In the high temps of summer, an engine overheat is much more likely and one of the biggest reasons for an overheated engine is a poorly maintained coolant system. Summarize the cooling system by checking coolant level and condition in the over-flow reservoir. The fluid in the reservoir should be clear and a neon yellow or orange color. It should fill the reservoir to the full mark, usually about half way. Dirty, dark fluid should be replaced. Check the condition of the radiator and associated hoses being particularly watchful for any leaks. With the car COMPLETELY cool, remove the radiator cap and check the seal in the cap itself.

Warning Smells

Any smell of fuel is a possible fire hazard, so immediate attention should be given. Syrup – The sweet smell of syrup may be a sign that the vehicle is leaking engine coolant from a component related to car's cooling system. Burning Carpet – This smell could be a sign of brake trouble.
